What is Surface Design?
Surface design is the art of creating, enhancing, or transforming the surface of an object or material through color, pattern, texture, and imagery. Artists use a wide variety of techniques—including painting, dyeing, printing, stitching, collage, embellishment, and mixed media—to create one-of-a-kind works of art.
At the Surface Design Guild of Sarasota, our members explore endless creative possibilities using fiber, fabric, paper, paint, natural materials, recycled objects, and more. Whether creating wearable art, art quilts, handmade books, baskets, jewelry, or mixed media pieces, we celebrate artistic expression in all its forms.
